CVS 101

CVS Extra Care Card

• Everything at CVS revolves around this card, so it’s critical you have one.
• You can get your Extra Care Card online, and they will mail it to you, or you can pick one up in the store, to start saving faster.

Extra Bucks

>>> These can be purchased in one transaction, or across several. Your Extra Care card tracks them for you and prints a tally at the bottom of your receipt.
>>> The ad will clearly tell you how many you can earn per household. You can earn all of the offered extra bucks but, there is usually a limit on how many of each specific Extra Bucks you can earn.

>>> All advertised prices are "with card" meaning you have to have the Extra Care card to get the deals.

• When you purchase advertised items, you will often get an Extra Bucks coupon printed at the bottom of your receipt.
• Earn 2% back on every purchase and rewards on prescription purchases. And enjoy ExtraBucks Rewards when you purchase select items.
• Extra Bucks (EB) used to be called Extra Care Bucks (ECB). They are the same thing, some blogs refer to them as EB some as ECB.
• Extra Bucks are a store coupon, good on your next purchase.
• There is no wait period on using the Extra Bucks coupons, they are valid as soon as they print, and can be used in the same shopping trip (just not the same transaction).
• At the bottom of your receipt you will also find a tally of where you are at with current promotions. You can spread them out over several days, stores, or even states if you like!
• The cashiers can lower the value of the Extra Bucks. Why?
  Say you have a $2 EB, and you want to purchase an item that’s $1.99 and use it. Cashiers cannot give cash back, and the Extra Bucks cannot be used towards tax, but unlike the Walgreens Register Rewards, you can easily spend it on anything you want (as long as you are willing to lose the “overage”.) That eliminates the need for filler items!
• Extra Bucks usually expire in 4 weeks, so you have plenty of time to use them!
• Your Extra Bucks are linked to your Extra Care Card. That means you have to have the same card you used to earn them to redeem them.
• You are not limited to a number of Extra Bucks in a transaction, however you may be limited to a certain number per item (we’ll spell it out for you!). That means you have buy all 497 Extra Bucks items in one transaction if you want to, but you may only be allowed to buy one Crest Toothpaste. These limits last for the duration of the promotion (usually Sunday-Saturday).
• Hand your coupons to the clerk in the following order: Dollars off total order coupon (ex. $5 off purchase of $25 or more) first, then your store and manufacturer coupons, followed by your Extra Care Bucks, and then your cash last.

Using Coupons at CVS

CVS has a long coupon policy that you can check out , but here is the easy version:

• CVS accepts manufacturer coupons, including Internet Printable coupons.
• CVS will issue their own store coupons. You can find them online, in your email, on your receipt (in addition to your EB’s!) and at the front of the store in their Kiosk.
• CVS Extra Bucks and any coupons on your receipt are linked to your CVS card. In addition $ off when you spend X coupons you may find in your email are linked to your CVS card as well. That means you have to present the card they were issued to in order to use them.
• CVS allows for one manufacturer coupon and one CVS coupon to be used per item. Extra Bucks are not counted as store coupons OR manufacturer coupons, and you can use as many as you like!
• CVS coupons will “beep” if used on the day they expire. This is no big deal, the cashier can enter them manually, it’s just a heads up!
• CVS coupons that you get via email with 12 digits are limited to one per transaction
• CVS coupons with 13 digits are limited to one use, ever (be careful with these, if you have to void your order and start over, they will not work again).

How to Get More CVS Coupons Emailed

• Get your prescriptions filled at CVS. About 66% of CVS’s profits are from RX’s, so they reward those customers with coupons!
• Shop less. CVS uses emailed coupons as an incentive to bring in people who haven’t been to the store in a while. (but come on, if you have a CVS, you KNOW you are going to be in there every week getting the freebies!)

Coupon Center Kiosk

When you walk in, swipe your card (and keep swiping it until you get ”no more coupons available”). It will print out store coupons that usually expire within 7 days, and most of the time you will get a dollar off when you purchase a certain amount coupon (such as a $4/$20 coupon). Lots of times you will get a coupon for a FREE item too! The Coupon Center is also a price checker!

In closing, when you are headed out the door to a store, simply type in the store's name in the "Search the Blog box" and you will be taken to the Most recent post for that store. Then simply click the print button, to take the list to the store with you. Happy Shopping!
